GB News presenter Patrick Christys has opened up about the channel’s future after revealing that competitors “tried to shut us down”. On Thursday night (August 6), the corporation celebrated its fifth anniversary on the airwaves. To mark the channel’s birthday, new dad Patrick aired a TV special in front of a live studio.

In the opening segment, the 34-year-old broadcaster reflected on his time with the corporation and gave viewers an insight into what it was really like in the first few months when the company was formed. He began: “Thank you for celebrating five years of GB News.

“First, they mocked us and said we wouldn’t last six months. Then, they tried to shut us down, but here we are. We must be doing something right. We’ve been with you through the highs, and we’ve been with you through the lows.

“We’ve been with you through the new dawns, and we’ve been with you through the rollercoaster of British politics. Despite all the chaos that has unfolded over the last five years, we have stayed true to who we are, a voice for every bit of Britain.

“We’ve exposed countless things about the illegal migrant crisis, and we have highlighted the plight of our farmers, and we will always, always, always remember our brave veterans. You have been there for us, and I hope that you feel that we have always been there for you.”

It didn’t take long for viewers at home to flock to social media to share their celebratory messages online. One user penned: “First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.”

Another agreed: “Well done, guys, you work bloody hard, thank you [thumbs up emoji, prayer emoji, heart emoji].” A third echoed: “Absolutely brilliant show [three heart emojis]. Congratulations!”

It comes just one week after Mr Christys sparked uproar as he issued a major illegal migrant crossing update. The host was joined by The Nowhere Photographer, Adrian, who was at the English Channel and revealed that he has “a group of people down the coastline” who feed him information about small-boat arrivals.

The report sparked fury among viewers as Prime Minister Andy Burnham addressed the new migrant figures and said: “The numbers can fluctuate, but, overall, boat crossings are down, down quite significantly year on year. So that does suggest the plan is working.”
