Lithuania’s defence minister Robertas Kaunas said on Thursday: !We are talking about a false flag operation, using a false Ukrainian drone.

“One of the goals is for NATO to waver and decrease to Ukraine. I can assure this will not happen.”

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda claimed in July that Russia was plotting an attack on the country’s infrastructure.

However, the Kremlin denied the claims, branding them “scare stories.”

The latest warning comes after a number of claims from the Baltic states that Russia is using threats and aggression to undermine their security.

This week, a runway was closed at Leipzig Airport in Germany after explosives and a detonator were discovered by a Ukrainian aircraft.

German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt said: “All of this does not point to an amateurish approach. We are talking about a professional, hybrid threat scenario that we will continue to address.”

It is not yet clear who left the explosives at the airport.

Mr Dobrint added that the investigation may point to a possible “competition” that “may also involve foreign powers”.
