Meghan Markle is feeling “vindicated” after a major palace move bypassed Prince William and Princess Catherine, an insider has said. The 41-year-old travelled to the UK last month, joining Prince Harry and their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, on a visit to meet with King Charles. The meeting was reportedly held in private at Highgrove House.
The meeting was seemingly held without permission from William and Catherine, which, according to Heat Magazine, likely “boosted Meghan’s confidence”. An insider told the publication: “It’s becoming increasingly clear they don’t need William and Kate’s approval, which has really boosted Meghan’s confidence. The fact that Charles is working so hard to put this rift in the past and lay the groundwork for their future – not just for Harry and Meghan, but for their children – is hugely satisfying.”
The insider added: “Both Meghan and Harry believe that both William and Kate went out of their way to make life as difficult as possible for them and tried to block a reconciliation at every turn. Ultimately, they failed, so Meghan and Harry feel vindicated. That being said, they would still very much like to have a better relationship with William and Kate, but even if that never happens, they believe they and their children now have a place within the family.”

Sarah Ferguson’s luxury hideaway bolthole revealed
Since Sarah Ferguson’s departure from the public eye, speculation has been rife about her whereabouts. She disappeared into thin air after her last public sighting in December, when she was captured ducking down in a car on the way to the christening of Princess Beatrice‘s second daughter, Athena.
The former Duchess and ex-husband of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor is thought to be staying in a luxury home owned by her former boyfriend and late friend, Paddy McNally, the Formula One mogul who passed away aged 88 on July 22.
The Daily Mail’s Richard Kay believes Fergie has been staying at his “luxuriously appointed” villa in Verbier, Switzerland, the ski resort where the pair originally met when Fergie worked as a nanny for McNally’s two sons after his wife died.
“You get a few middle-aged people who like walking in the hills, but it’s much more laid-back and low-key. A perfect place to hide up,” Mr Kay said.

Meghan Markle’s ‘bizarre’ fashion choices questioned – ‘trying to stake a claim’
Meghan Markle has been accused of trying to “stake a claim” on Princess Diana’s legacy after wearing the late royal’s earrings to a charity gala. The Duchess of Sussex donned diamond and sapphire butterfly earrings for the event in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, on August 7.
Meghan‘s choice of earrings formed part of a wide-ranging discussion of the latest royal news on the Daily Mail’s Palace Confidential podcast. Host Richard Kay and columnist Sarah Vine agreed it could not have been a coincidence, with the former arguing that to match the exact jewellery would have required a significant amount of research.
The pair worn by Meghan earlier this month are the exact pair which the late Diana, Princess of Wales, wore on a visit to British Columbia in 1986.
Kay claimed: “It does feel to me she is trying to stake a claim on Diana’s legacy… She does look to me like she’s trying to channel the mother-in-law she never met.”
Viewed by some as a tribute to Diana, Vine described the move as “calculated” and said it was “bizarre” to see the earrings worn at an ordinary red carpet event.
Meghan has received a number of pieces which were once worn by Princess Diana, including an aquamarine ring that the Duchess was spotted wearing before the Sussexes’ wedding reception in 2018.

Pippa Middleton ordered to tear up car park – neighbours furious
Pippa Middleton has been ordered to tear up an “unsightly” car park at her £15million Berkshire estate after her appeal was thrown out following a furious backlash from neighbours. The Princess of Wales’ younger sister, 42, and her hedge fund manager husband, James Matthews, 50, sparked local outrage after building the six-space car park on an open meadow without planning permission.
Now, West Berkshire Council and a planning inspectorate have officially rejected the couple’s retrospective application, ruling that the unauthorised hardstanding ruins the natural beauty of the area.
Planners declared that the unapproved development on the Wessex Downs – an area protected by strict landscape preservation rules – introduced an “urbanised and visually intrusive feature” into the countryside. Disgruntled locals in the village of Kintbury slammed the couple for attempting to move cars out of their own line of sight while ruining the landscape for everyone else.
Pippa and James – who bought the grand 30-room Barton Court estate in 2022 – claimed through their planners that the parking area was needed seasonally for local anglers who lost access to a nearby station car park. However, planning inspectors were unsympathetic and dismissed the appeal, forcing the couple to dig up the land and restore the meadow.
It marks the second major clash with locals for the couple, following an ongoing row over their decision to lock electric gates and block public access to a popular footpath through their grounds.
