Daily Express columnist Carole Malone lost it live on GB News over claims that £12billion in benefits go to migrants in the UK. The number is up from £9.5billion in 2024, and according to analysis by the Centre for Migration Control, households containing at least one foreign national made up one in six of all UC claimants last year. £7.7billion of those payments went to unemployment claimants.
Discussing the latest developments on the programme, Malone fumed: “It’s obscene, it’s unsustainable and it’s a disgrace! Universal Credit is being used to prop up a load of idle migrants. Britain’s welfare state should exist for British people, not for migrants. It’s no damn wonder so many of them risk their lives to come here – when they get here, they’re going to get this!”
She went on: “That Universal Credit – the main figure that everyone gets – has gone up by £3billion by 2024, and that, I suspect, is largely because of migrants claiming it.
“We’ve got 1.26million of them claiming. We’ve got 3.6million other people who… there’s no onus on them to work ever again in their lives. They’re going to get that until the day they die!
“This is a small country of 34million working people. It is totally unsustainable that those 34million people who work could potentially be paying benefits to people from all over the globe who come here and pretend to be entitled.

“That’s the kind of incentive that this government is giving people. We need to stop being the benefits office to the world, and that’s what we’re becoming. That’s why so many people come here.”
Viewers were similarly outraged, with one tweeting: “No migrant should receive benefits of any kind, including no access to the NHS, until they have worked and paid tax in the UK for a minimum of 10 years.”
Another posted: “When working families across Britain are struggling with high energy bills and mortgage rates, seeing headline figures like £12 billion spent on welfare for non-UK nationals hits a massive raw nerve.”
