West Midlands Police said the boy has been charged with wounding and sexual assault in connection with the incident. He also faces additional charges linked to a separate case last month, including theft and intentional strangulation after a woman was approached in the street.
The child, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been remanded in custody and is due to appear before Birmingham Youth Court on Tuesday.
A spokesperson for the force said enquiries are ongoing and acknowledged the concern the case may cause within the local community.
“Our enquiries remain ongoing, but we understand how concerning this will be within the community,” they said.
“Our officers will be continuing to provide reassurance in the local area.”
