Zack Polanski has been humiliated live on LBC by a fuming Nick Ferrari, who slammed his controversial comments about the police response to the Golders Green attack this week. The Green Party leader posted a tweet which alleged officers “repeatedly and violently kick[ed] a mentally ill man in the head” while incapacitating the suspect, who had been tasered.

He later apologised for “sharing a tweet in haste”, writing: “Everyone in leadership has a responsibility for lowering the temperature at a time of such tension, and I apologise for sharing a tweet in haste. Police responses to emergency situations such as these do need later reflection in the right forums, but I accept that social media is not the appropriate channel for doing so.

“I have invited [Metropolitan police commissioner] Mark Rowley to meet with me to discuss the police response and the wider issues raised in his letter.’

But Ferrari wasn’t letting him off so easily, and fumed on his LBC show: “Mr Polanski’s view is ‘officers repeatedly and violently kicking a mentally ill man in the head when he was already incapacitated by taser’.

“Just put yourself in the position of those officers, as I was just discussing with the commissioner. And again, we have to go carefully, but it is believed that the suspect has been involved in stabbing of people in the street, it is believed the suspect could possibly have some kind of vest on him.

“Well, he’s not going to just give up easily, is he?

“The police officers’ hands are all used in trying to restrain him and trying to put handcuffs on or those plastic locks or whatever they were using. They’ve got nothing else, have they? You only have one pair of hands. Surely you can see that.

“You have to question the motivation of Zack Polanski in all of this, deliberately causing trouble? Well, the commissioner didn’t want to go that far. Ignorant? I can. Utterly ignorant.”
