An Iranian man who showed no remorse after raping a 17-year-old girl has been jailed. Mohammad Tawfiqi, 22, forced his way into a bathroom the youngster was using at a friend’s house in Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire, in 2024.

Tawfiqi had been at the same gathering as the girl, but lied to everyone there, telling them his name was “Papino”. Warwickshire Police launched a manhunt after the rape, leading a member of the public from Hereford to identify Tawfiqi.

Det Cons Ella Stewart said: “The victim has shown incredible bravery throughout this process and I want to publicly thank her for all she has done.

“Tawfiqi has shown no remorse for his appalling attack and, though no sentence will take away what happened, we are glad he is off the streets.”

The Iranian national was living in Stratford-upon-Avon at the time of his vile crime. Police arrested him while he was at work.

He gave officers a false name and handed detectives a statement prepared before his police interview in which he denied any wrongdoing.

Warwickshire Police said the bravery of the rape survivor meant a “strong” case could be built against him and he was found guilty of rape on March 19 at Warwick Crown Court.

Tawfiqi was sentenced to 10 years at the same court on the same date, according to Warwickshire Police.

A spokesperson for the force said: “We hope this sentence reassures victims that police take reports of sexual offences seriously and will conduct full and thorough investigations into any reports made.”

If you have been a victim of a sexual offence, you can report what happened by calling 101. Always call 999 in an emergency.
