GB News halted for breaking news announcement – it’s bad news for Starmer

The guest on GB News certainly didn’t hold back in slamming the Labour leader live on air.

Sir Keir Starmer was humiliated live on GB News, as the channel brought its morning show to a halt for a major breaking news announcement. On Sunday morning (April 12), Stephen Dixon and Emily Carver returned to the airwaves to deliver the latest news hitting the headlines. It didn’t take long before things turned political as they revealed that the United Nations is reviewing whether the Prime Minister’s proposed Chagos Islands deal breaches international human rights law by attempting to remove four islanders who have recently returned.

The Sunday Telegraph reports that James Tumbridge, attorney general for the Chagossian government, has filed an urgent submission to the UN human rights commissioner alleging Britain’s policy amounts to “ethnic cleansing and potentially crimes against humanity.” The filing names Starmer and claims the removal of the four indigenous residents currently residing on Île du Coin could violate “the right of indigenous people not to be forcibly removed from their lands.” More than 300 more have expressed an interest in joining them on the island.

To get a clearer understanding of the explosive reports, the presenting duo welcomed former Attorney General Sir Michael Ellis onto the show to share his thoughts on the government’s now-shelved Chagos Islands deal. Stephen began: “Now we’re being told that the UN might be investigating?” to which he claimed the politician is “being played at his own game”.

He began: “Prime Minister Starmer is having his own game played against him here because he is a slave to international law. It is being suggested that his attempt to forcibly remove Chagossians, native Chagossians, from what was their indigenous territory by force, is in violation of the United Nations’ rules about colonialisation.

“It’ll be interesting because he is being played at his own game.” It was at this point that he argued that the Labour leader attempted to use international law to his advantage during the initial stages of the Chagos Islands deal.

Ellis explained: “He tried to use international law, which, frankly, was nonsense. It was always in an advisory opinion. Mauritius has no proper legal claim, never has had to the Chagos Islands. Their only claim, frankly, was that the British Empire associated Mauritius in Victorian times for proximate reasons with the Chagos Islands.

“They never had anything to do with it, and they renounced rights for the sum of £3million in 1965, which no one talks about. But I think it’s coming up again because what’s happening now is they’re being hoisted by their own petard, the British Government, because they’re now trying to remove Chegosians who have positioned themselves back on the island.”

Emily couldn’t help but chuckle: “He won’t like this Keir Starmer,” which the former attorney general agreed with. He added: “No, he won’t, and neither will his Attorney General, Lord Hermer, because they like to feel that they are the maestros when it comes to international law.

“But I think that the British interests here are that Chagos remains firmly British, and that’s in Western interests as well because it’s a very strategic and important location. ” It didn’t take long for fans to flock to social media to share their thoughts on the latest update online.

One user penned: “If only Starmer and Hermer had access to specialists in human rights whom they could ask for advice [thinking emoji]. Someone like an ex-prominent human rights lawyer or an ex-prominent human rights barrister, I wonder where they would find such people [eyes rolling emoji].”

Another asked: “Why can’t people from Chagos live in Chagos? Simple question…”
