The Green Party has won a by-election at Rossendale Council, beating Reform UK who came second.
Laura Diamond has been elected as a Green councillor for the Hareholme & Waterfoot ward by-election. The vacancy arose in the ward due to the resignation of Coun Tom Belli, who had been a Labour councillor.

In a statement, Rossendale Green Party said: “Our candidate for Hareholme & Waterfoot has done it. Huge congratulations to Laura and well done to Laura-Beth Thompson and everyone helping the campaign team.
“You all deserve it. Thank you to everyone who voted and put faith in the Green Party: Real hope, real change in Rossendale.”

The win takes the number of Green councillors on Rossendale Council to four. The other Green councillors are Bob Bauld, John Payne and Julie Adshead.
Overall, Rossendale Council remains in Labour control.
Meanwhile in nearby Bury, a Reform UK candidate has won the Tottington byelection, becoming the third Reform councillor in the borough.
George Martin will join his colleagues Coun Jack Rydehard and Coun Glyn Marsden in the council chambers as the first elected member of the group.
Coun Martin won the Tottington vote with 929 votes, followed by Conservative candidate Emma Elizabeth Lee (627) and Labour candidate Drew Keanu Bell (346).
