The US military has launched new strikes on Iran’s Kharg Island as tensions soar in the Middle East. The US military has struck targets near Kharg Island and Jask.

Quoting senior US officials, Fox News chief national security correspondent Jennifer Griffin reported: “The US military has struck targets near Kharg Island and Jask.

“The targets include Iranian oil tankers. This is part of a larger effort to squeeze Iran economically. The strategy includes sinking and disabling Iranian crude oil tankers.”

The IRGC (Iran Revolutionary Guard Corps)-affiliated Tasnim news agency reported the tanker was hit by a missile about four miles from Kharg Island. The semi-official agency also said there were no reports of casualties.

Iran And US Remain In Stalemate Over Strait Of Hormuz

Kharg Island, just like the Strait of Hormuz, is one of the world’s most vital maritime routes for global energy transport. The territory is also known as “Iran‘s crown jewel”.

It is believed that the crucial Iranian territory handles roughly 90% of the Middle Eastern country’s crude exports. Back in March, a few weeks after the war broke out, Mr Trump already targeted Kharg Island, which was “totally obliterated”.

Back then, the US President took to his social media platform, Truth Social, to say the US Central Command (CENTCOM) had carried out “one of the most powerful bombing raids in the history of the Middle East”.

This US attack came after Mr Trump posted an AI-generated video showing the destruction of Iran’s oil hub on the island.

The video also showed a caption that read: “Kharg Island being blown to smithereens!!!”

Just hours before the video was posted on Truth Social, the US conducted a strike resulting in several casualties and fatalities on Iran’s Larak Island.

The attack on Kharg Island also came after the IRGC claimed to have seized one of the US military’s most advanced unmanned submarines in the Strait of Hormuz.

A statement read: “The IRGC naval forces captured one of the most modern, unmanned, and smart submarines of the US terrorist army at the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz in a complex intelligence and operational action at dawn today.”
