Asylum seekers are having to be told “men and women are equal” in the UK amid mounting fears over cultural values, safety and integration.

The Home Office has issued new guidance to arrivals telling them “this means women can work, study, travel and make their own choices”.

And officials are sensationally telling migrants not to rape or beat women, and that sex with children is illegal.

In a startling admission in a booklet for asylum seekers, they said: “Women do not need permission from a husband, father, brother or any other man to do any of these things.

“Men and women are treated equally by the law, by employers, by schools and by services like hospitals and the police. It is against the law to treat someone unfairly because of their gender.”

Migrants are also being told domestic abuse is illegal and that the age of consent in the UK is 16.

Immigration chiefs warn: “Sex with someone under the age of 16 is a serious crime in the UK. There are no exceptions to this rule. Even if they say yes, it is still illegal. You could go to prison, lose your support and accommodation, and it will affect your asylum claim.”

Reform’s Zia Yusuf told the Daily Express: “The fact migrants have to be explicitly told not to beat their wives or children, not to harass people ‘or else it can affect your asylum support’, that women are equal to men and that consent means both people saying yes highlights the values and attitudes of those coming to the UK.

“The men illegally entering our country evidently do not share the same values as us, posing a clear threat to the safety of our women and children – and Labour knows it.

“Under a Reform UK government, we will not need to distribute posters to illegal migrants explaining the basic difference between right and wrong. They will be detained and deported, and no illegal boat will reach our shores.”

Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp said: “Immigrants are coming from places and societies where attitudes towards women can be completely incompatible with Western society. Too many communities are failing to properly integrate and become part of our culture, leaving frankly backwards standards to prevail.

“It seems like every day there is another report of an immigrant raping or assaulting women and young girls. Instead of trying to train these mainly young, male illegal immigrants to behave in a civilised way towards women, they should be deported.

“Integration cannot just be bringing people into Britain and hoping they adapt. We need to make sure that the people we admit will integrate into British society and respect our laws and customs.”

Going further, immigration officials warn asylum seekers “you must never stop a woman from working or studying, control what a woman wears or where she goes, stop a woman from seeing friends or family or make decisions for a woman without her agreement.”

And officials declare “it is illegal to hurt, threaten or control your partner or family”.

Migrants are told not to deny children food, or “cut or harm a girl’s genitals”.

The Home Office added: “We understand that coming to a new country can be difficult, and that laws and customs here may be different from your home country.

“In the UK, there are laws that protect everyone’s safety, dignity and rights. It is important that you understand them, because not following UK law can have serious consequences.

“You could get in trouble with the police, lose your asylum support, or it could affect your asylum claim.”

And the staggering advice even details what rape is, insisting that “consent” is needed in every sexual situation.

The document states: “This means even if you are married or in a relationship with someone, they must consent to sex every time.

“If you have sex with someone without their consent, this is called rape. Rape is a serious crime in the UK. You could go to prison, lose your support and accommodation, and it will affect your asylum claim.”

Guidance published in the booklet for asylum seekers adds: “Someone can change their mind at any time, even if they said yes before.

“If someone is asleep, drunk, or unable to respond, they cannot consent.”

Britain’s asylum crisis was laid bare by the Home Office as 93,525 sought sanctuary in the UK last year, down from 106,130 in the previous 12 months.

An alarming 38,980 people applied after crossing the Channel on a dinghy, while 36,711 claimed refuge after arriving on a study, work or visitor visa.

Of this group, 10,835 held a study visa, 13,994 arrived on a work visa, 7,048 used a visitor visa and 4,834 held other forms of leave.

Alicia Kearns, Shadow Safeguarding Minister, said the leaflet shows how we cannot afford to “indulge in political taboos” about immigration.

Writing in the Daily Express, she said: “Violence against women and girls is a national epidemic. A woman failed by a British husband and a girl failed by a family that considers her marriageable at fourteen are both failed by us.

“I refuse to choose between them and will fight for both. But it is precisely because the scale is so grave that we cannot afford blind spots or indulge political taboos. Barely a day passes without another report of an immigrant charged with raping or assaulting a woman or young girl.

“The Home Office poster campaign trying to force immigrants to recognise women are equal in our country is an admission of this danger. Pretending it is not happening silences the survivors, re-victimises them, and leaves other women less safe.”

This follows a spate of shocking sex crimes committed by asylum seekers.

Two migrants who repeatedly raped a woman on Brighton beach and a third who filmed it have been jailed.

The victim recalled being spat on, kicked, and her throat being grabbed during the attack on October 4 last year.

Egyptian national Ibrahim Alshafe, 26, and Iranian Abdulla Ahmadi, 26, who met on a small boat from France four months before the attack, raped her behind a beach hut.

Egyptian Karin Al-Danasurt, 21, who shared a room with Alshafe at an asylum hotel in Lower Beeding, West Sussex, filmed the ordeal. The men had been to a bar and nightclub on the beach where prosecutors suggested Alshafe was “on the prowl”.

And Afghan small boat migrant Ahmad Mulakhil attacked a 12-year-old schoolgirl after luring her into a secluded area behind a row of garages in Nuneaton. He filmed the rape and then later tried to blame his traumatised victim.

The asylum seeker had only been in the country for several months after crossing the Channel.
