A horror warning that Putin could be planning to bomb the UK has been issued as NATO is placed on red alert.

Poland’s Prime Minister revealed on Thursday evening that Russia is preparing to launch missile strikes on countries supporting Ukraine.

Donald Tusk issued the warning of wider conflict after the country was forced to close its airspace and airports due to the Kremlin’s attack.

He confirmed to parliament that Western intelligence agencies have verified Putin’s plans to launch further attacks.

Britain is likely to be among the countries Russia plans to strike as a key ally of Ukraine, the Mail reports.

Mark Rutte, NATO chief, said that the UK needs a ‘credible path’ towards hitting its defence spending target with ‘yearly increments’.

If Russia were to launch missile strikes over British bases this would represent a significant escalation of conflict.

Russian drone strikes and reconnaissance missions inside NATO airspace have occurred before but not missile strikes.

The air strike in Poland came just days after a railway station close to the border was nearly struck by a high-speed jet-powered drone with Western dignitaries including former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson on board.

Tusk told Polish parliamentarians: “We know he is plotting something bad. However, for us the most important task is to prepare for various scenarios.

“We will certainly not naively accept such messages that Russia has goodwill and will start behaving properly. There is no indication of this.”

Tusk continued to add that intelligence was ‘very consistent and convincing’ and warned Russia could portray future attacks as incidental.

He also added that Russia is looking to test NATO’s resolve as never before over the coming months.

As Russia increase their use of jet-powered drones in western Ukraine, there have been calls for Britain and other allies to shoot them down before they reach NATO airspace.

Ben Wallace, former UK Defence Secretary described the move as ‘the next natural step’.

Tusk added: “There is a real risk that drones or other types of missiles could penetrate the territory of one or more countries on the eastern flank and even cause damage, while the official explanation will be that there was an accident.”

His intervention follows Reform UK’s disastrous conference and a slump in the polls for the right-wing party after a series of scandals over donations. The Trades Union Congress (TUC) General Secretary told the Mirror: “I think the more that the public see of Nigel Farage, the less they like him.”

He added: “If you listen to Nigel Farage and Richard Tice and all the rest of them, it’s like a foregone conclusion that they’ve got the keys to Downing Street. I don’t think that that is the case. I think Andy is well capable of beating Nigel Farage at the next election.

“If it’s a choice between a Prime Minister offering a vision of hope that’s focused on the issues that actually matter to working people, rather than scaremongering and creating division, then I think he’s absolutely got a chance of leading Labour into the next election and securing a majority.”

The TUC boss also dismissed speculation of a snap general election – despite clear evidence of a ‘Burnham bounce’ in the national polls. He said: “I don’t get the sense that the public is crying out for a general election anytime soon. I mean, that’s obviously a decision to be taken by the Prime Minister.

“I think people are more focused on: ‘Let’s see what you can do and deliver the change that we voted for back in July 2024.’ Not voting again, let’s deliver the change you promised.”

But he highlighted Labour’s recent victories over Mr Farage’s Reform UK at the ballot box, including Mr Burnham’s own Westminster comeback at June’s Makerfield by-election.

Mr Nowak said: “I think what’s clear is that we have seen a Burnham bounce in the polls. I’m not complacent about that.

“I am still worried about Reform and their impact on British politics. But I think the public are giving him a hearing, and he’s starting to… those breathing space policies, I think, are ones that people will feel in their pockets.”
