Prime Minster Keir Starmer was slammed by Reform UK‘s Spokesperson for Home Affairs Zia Yusuf, who highlighted his lack of popularity as he ripped Labour’s economic policies to shreds. He was appearing on GB News Breakfast with hosts Alex Armstrong and Ellie Costello after Starmer indicated there could be an “inflation spike” triggered by the war in Iran ahead of attending talks to join the European Union’s proposed £78billion loan for Ukraine as the Government deepens defence ties with the bloc.

“MPs have basically decided that, you know, the public were wrong, and they were going to look to find any excuse to try and get Britain back into the European Union by the front door or by the back door,” he said, referencing Brexit in the context of the current talks. “And it looks increasingly like Keir Starmer now, given he’s always in a place where he’s got nothing to lose. It’s difficult, really, for him to go much further down in the polls,” he said.

“He is the most unpopular Prime Minister in history, which is a pretty astonishing thing for someone who has really only been Prime Minister for the blink of an eye, and obviously comes after horrendously unpopular previous Tory Prime Ministers.

“…Don’t forget, it was the Tories, of course, completely squandered the enormous opportunity that Brexit presented Britain and the British people.

“But…the good news is that that opportunity can still be realised, and if you want it to be realised, you need a Reform government led by Nigel Farage,” he said, plugging his own party.

Reflecting on the current state of the economy following Starmer’s warning, he continued: “…There’s no money for things that the British public really want, whether it’s mass deportations, whether it’s a strong and formidable defence.

“But there’s infinite money for illegal migrants, [an] amount of £15 billion has been spent over the last 18 months on foreign nationals, just on Universal Credit alone.

“That’s just one line item on of our of our welfare bill, and that’s a significant percentage of our annual defence budget right there. And then. We need to get serious about growing our economy,” he said.

Starmer is currently at a gathering of world leaders in Armenia’s capital Yerevan where he plans to tell them Britain wants to work more closely with the EU to ensure Ukraine gets the military equipment it needs to continue its fightback against Russia’s invasion.

The bid to participate in the loan scheme, recently approved by the EU after Viktor Orban’s defeat in Hungarian elections ended a long-running impasse, is part of the Prime Minister’s reset with Brussels.
