Keir Starmer has a national emergency on his hands – and he’s doing absolutely nothing

Giles Sheldrick says the Government is too weak to tackle a new disease engulfing Britain.

Sir Keir Starmer is fast finding out that you reap what you sow.

On Labour’s watch hate marches and hate preachers have become tolerated, normalised, but it has created a climate of fear not seen in generations.

In short, Britain has become infested with the sickness of antisemitism.

Yesterday two Jewish men were stabbed in the Golders Green area of north London in an attack that has been declared a terrorist incident.

It is the latest racist attack in what has become a deeply disturbing trend.

Extremists do not just hate Jews, they hate Britain. And they are prospering here.

Jews are a race singled out for extermination.

Many found sanctuary in Britain after escaping the clutches of the Nazis during the war, but life has now become a daily battle to protect everything from schools to synagogues.

Since the murder spree carried by Hamas on October 7, 2023, British Jews have been targeted – physically and verbally – as they walk the same streets where they were welcomed eight decades ago.

Adrian Daulby, 53, and Melvin Cravitz, 66, were killed in a terror attack on the Heaton Park synagogue in Manchester on October 2 last year – Yom Kippur – just days after Labour’s formal recognition of Palestine.

These appalling incidents go against everything Jews stand for – tolerance, acceptance, and peace.

But they are a predictable outcome of the failure to call out and crush the undiluted bile in which zealots fan the flames of hatred in their calls for the globalisation of the intifada.

National Demonstration for Palestine

Mobs of keffiyeh wearing Palestinian supporters are a regular sight on the streets of London in a mob-handed movement that has coincided with an alarming spike in antisemitism.

Anti-Jewish hatred is now running at the highest level on record with Campaign Against Antisemitism (CAA) claiming the number of people in Britain holding what it considers to be entrenched antisemitic views now covering more than one fifth of the population.

Make no mistake, Britain is infected with a new disease – the relentless spewing of obsessive conspiracy theories about Jews, Zionists and Israelis.

Those responsible think of themselves as social justice warriors, but the reality is they are hateful bigots, enabled by a government too weak to act.

After the liberation of Auschwitz and Bergen-Belsen thousands of Jews were warmly welcomed here and, in the decades since, have become a pivotal part of this country.

But the brazen anti-Jewish hatred being seen on the streets has left many asking: Is it still safe for us here in the UK?

The answer at the moment is a categoric no.

Jewish soldier Mervyn Kersh, 101, should know.

He was part of the Normandy Invasion in 1944, helped liberate the Bergen-Belsen death camp in 1945, and knows exactly where appeasement and the events we are currently witnessing lead.

He said: “Antisemitism reveals diseased minds and corrupt societies, and it eventually leads to the Holocaust, which we must not only learn about but never, ever forget so that it can never happen anywhere again.”

Tonight a “national emergency” rally will be held at Sir Keir Starmer’s front door outside Downing Street in reaction to his government’s unforgiveable inaction.

CAA said: “This is a national emergency. We need to dispense with the political platitudes. Prime Minister, what is your plan?

“Six months ago we stood outside Downing Street after the fatal terrorist attack at Heaton Park Synagogue. Things have only got worse. More Jews attacked. Synagogues burned. More lives at risk. What action is the Government taking?

“We are demonstrating to ask the Prime Minister a simple question: ‘What’s the plan?’ We must take this to the Prime Minister’s door. He’s had plenty of time. What is he actually going to do?”

Many Jews living in Britain, cowering in trepidation and fearful of their lives, think the answer to that is absolutely nothing.
