The British American Tobacco (BAT) factory in Pryluky, in Ukraine’s northern Chernihiv region, was struck on Monday, September 7.
Images from the scene showed flames and thick smoke rising from the industrial site as emergency crews responded to the incident.
The roof of the tobacco factory reportedly caught fire following the strike, with firefighters dispatched to tackle the blaze.
All employees are understood to have been inside a shelter when the attack took place.
No injuries have been reported.
The facility is operated by British American Tobacco, the UK-headquartered multinational behind cigarette brands including Dunhill, Lucky Strike and Rothmans.
Pryluky is located in Chernihiv Oblast, around 130 kilometres east of Kyiv.
The strike came amid another wave of Russian aerial attacks on Ukraine, with drones and other weapons targeting locations across the country.
Ukraine has repeatedly accused Russian forces of targeting civilian and industrial infrastructure during the war.
Factories, energy facilities, warehouses and other commercial sites have been damaged or destroyed during attacks since Russia launched its full-scale invasion in February 2022.
The latest incident also comes as Ukrainian authorities continue to warn residents to take shelter during air raid alerts as Russia carries out long-range attacks far beyond the frontline.
Despite the damage to the BAT facility, there were no immediate reports of casualties following Monday’s strike.
The full extent of the damage to the factory has not yet been confirmed.
Emergency services remained at the scene following the attack.
British American Tobacco has operated in Ukraine for decades, with its Pryluky facility forming a significant part of its operations in the country.
The company has previously been forced to suspend production at the plant because of security concerns following Russia’s invasion.
Monday’s attack represents another incident in which a major foreign-owned commercial facility has been caught up in Russia’s continuing assault on Ukraine.
Further details about the weapon used in the strike and the scale of the damage are expected to emerge as Ukrainian authorities assess the scene.
