Harry and Meghan ‘just made a demand’ so entitled they look more ridiculous than ever
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s latest demand shows the extent of their self-importance and the Royal Family will be taking note, argues Eleanor Burleigh.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have reportedly shed light on how they want to be seen by the Palace and public after their UK return – and the self-importance is astonishing. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are said to have taken umbrage with King Charles’s labelling of them as “private citizens” in his statement on their move back to Britain this week.
Instead, they would like to be known as “public figures”, as it would “acknowledge that, on a personal level, they remain members of the Royal Family, despite no longer receiving public funding”. A spokesperson also said Harry and Meghan “were a little surprised not to have been told about” the King’s statement in advance – even though it broke no new ground and simply restated their existing non-working status.
HARRY & MEGHAN ‘JUST MADE A DEMAND’ SO ENTITLED IT HAS LEFT ROYAL FANS FUMING
The latest controversy surrounding Prince Harry and Meghan Markle has once again sent royal watchers into a frenzy, after reports claimed that the Sussexes had made a new demand that some royal fans have described as “entitled”.
The allegation has rapidly fuelled debate across social media, with supporters and critics of the couple offering sharply different interpretations of what happened. While some commentators have portrayed the reported request as another example of tension between the Sussexes and the wider Royal Family, others have urged caution, pointing out that claims circulating online are not necessarily the same as confirmed statements from Harry or Meghan.
Nevertheless, the story has captured attention because it touches on one of the most sensitive questions surrounding the couple: what role, if any, should they continue to have within the British royal world?
Since stepping back from their roles as senior working royals in 2020, Harry and Meghan have built a very different life in the United States. Their departure from frontline royal duties, subsequent interviews, documentary projects and Harry’s memoir have kept their relationship with the Royal Family under intense public scrutiny.
Every new development involving the couple therefore tends to attract enormous attention.
And this latest claim is no exception.
A Reported “Demand” Sparks Anger
According to reports circulating in the media, Harry and Meghan are said to have expressed a particular expectation concerning their relationship with the Royal Family.
The language used to describe the alleged request has been particularly inflammatory.
Words such as “demand”, “entitled” and “furious” have appeared prominently in commentary surrounding the story. Such descriptions can create a powerful impression before readers have even had an opportunity to examine what was actually said or requested.
That distinction matters.
There is a significant difference between a confirmed demand issued publicly by Harry and Meghan and an interpretation of their reported preferences by commentators or unnamed sources.
At the time of writing, the central question is therefore not simply whether royal fans are angry, but what evidence exists for the underlying claim.
This has not stopped the story from generating an emotional reaction.
For some royal supporters, the issue represents something much larger than one particular request. They see it as part of a continuing dispute over the Sussexes’ position within the monarchy and their relationship with senior members of the Royal Family.
Others argue that the couple should be entitled to establish whatever boundaries they consider appropriate after leaving royal duties.
That divide has become a familiar feature of almost every major Harry and Meghan story.
Why Royal Fans Are Reacting So Strongly
The strength of the reaction cannot be understood without looking at the history behind it.
Harry and Meghan’s decision to step down as senior working royals marked one of the most significant changes to the modern monarchy.
They subsequently relocated to California and pursued commercial and charitable projects outside the formal structure of the Royal Family.
Their 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey generated global headlines, while the Netflix documentary series Harry & Meghan revisited their experiences inside the institution.
Harry later published his memoir, Spare, which contained detailed accounts of his childhood, family relationships and life as a member of the Royal Family.
These events deepened an already complicated relationship between the Sussexes and sections of the British public.
For supporters of the couple, Harry and Meghan have described genuine personal experiences and attempted to establish independence from an institution they felt was not compatible with their desired life.
For critics, however, the repeated public discussion of private family matters has been viewed very differently.
That disagreement explains why even relatively small stories can trigger unusually strong reactions.
The Question of Royal Privilege
At the centre of the latest controversy is a broader debate about privilege.
Harry was born into the British Royal Family and remains a member of the royal house despite no longer being a working royal.
Meghan became part of the Royal Family through her marriage to Harry.
When the couple stepped away from their senior royal positions, they also sought greater independence from the institution.
That created an unusual situation.
They wanted greater freedom from the responsibilities associated with being working royals while continuing to occupy a unique position as internationally recognised members of the Royal Family.
For some observers, this combination has always been difficult to reconcile.
For others, it is entirely understandable.
A person can reject a particular institutional role while retaining family connections and a public identity.
The disagreement is therefore not simply about Harry and Meghan themselves. It is about what the public should expect from members of a modern royal family who choose to step away from official duties.
Social Media Adds Fuel to the Fire
One reason the latest story has spread so quickly is the speed at which royal news travels online.
A report can appear in one publication and rapidly be transformed into hundreds of posts, videos and comments.
By the time a story reaches social media, the original wording may have been significantly exaggerated.
A reported preference can become a “demand”.
A disagreement can become a “royal feud”.
An anonymous claim can become something presented as established fact.
This phenomenon affects both supporters and critics of Harry and Meghan.
Social media users who already dislike the couple may interpret ambiguous reports in the most negative possible way. Supporters, meanwhile, may dismiss criticism as another example of unfair treatment.
The result is a cycle in which every new story reinforces existing opinions.
That is why careful readers should distinguish between confirmed information, attributed claims and commentary.
Harry’s Relationship With the Royal Family
The story also comes at a time when interest in Harry’s relationship with his family remains intense.
His relationship with his father, King Charles III, has attracted particular attention.
The Duke of Sussex has previously spoken publicly about his desire for reconciliation, while also discussing painful disagreements within the family.
The situation has been further complicated by Harry’s decision to live permanently in the United States with Meghan and their children.
Physical distance has inevitably changed the nature of family relationships.
Yet the Sussexes remain connected to the Royal Family through Harry’s position and through their children, Archie and Lilibet.
This creates a complicated balance between private family life and public expectations.
What Does the Alleged Demand Actually Mean?
The most important question is perhaps whether the reported request represents a major confrontation or something much more ordinary.
Without a direct statement from Harry or Meghan confirming the alleged demand, it is difficult to know exactly what motivated the reported position.
It is entirely possible that a request described dramatically in headlines may have a much more practical explanation.
This is particularly important when anonymous sources are involved.
Unnamed insiders can provide information that would otherwise remain unavailable, but readers cannot independently assess their motives, proximity to the situation or accuracy.
Consequently, claims based on unnamed sources should be treated as claims rather than established facts.
That does not mean the report is necessarily false.
It means that the evidence should be considered proportionately.
Why the Sussex Story Refuses to Go Away
Few modern royal stories have generated as much sustained public interest as Harry and Meghan.
Part of the fascination comes from the contrast between their two worlds.
On one side stands the centuries-old British monarchy, with its traditions, ceremonies and constitutional role.
On the other stands a couple who have deliberately created a life outside the traditional royal structure while continuing to command enormous global attention.
That tension creates an almost endless supply of headlines.
Whenever Harry or Meghan speaks publicly, questions immediately arise about whether their comments relate to the Royal Family.
Whenever a member of the Royal Family appears at a major event, observers wonder whether Harry and Meghan will attend.
And whenever an anonymous source makes a claim about the Sussexes, the story can dominate online discussion within hours.
A Story That Reveals a Bigger Divide
Ultimately, the reaction to the alleged “demand” says as much about the public’s divided attitude toward Harry and Meghan as it does about the alleged request itself.
For some people, the couple represent a modern approach to royal life — one in which individuals can choose independence while maintaining their family relationships.
For others, their departure from official duties created expectations that they should accept a clear separation from the privileges and visibility associated with royal life.
Neither interpretation should automatically be treated as established fact.
What is clear is that the Sussexes remain enormously influential figures in the global royal conversation.
A single reported request can generate headlines around the world because millions of people remain interested in what Harry and Meghan want, how they relate to the Royal Family and whether reconciliation is possible.
The latest controversy may therefore fade as quickly as it appeared — or it may become another chapter in the much larger Sussex story.
For now, the strongest claims should be treated carefully.
Royal fans may indeed be furious. Commentators may regard the alleged request as unreasonable. Others may see it as a perfectly understandable personal boundary.
But until Harry and Meghan themselves confirm exactly what was requested and why, the difference between a reported “demand” and a genuine public position remains crucial.
And in the extraordinary world of royal news, that distinction can mean everything.
